About the Series:
Following the success of 'On The Plane', published by The Velvet Cell in Oct 2010 (Sold Out), both Phillip and The Velvet Cell were keen to explore in more detail issues that had been highlighted. Thus the 'On The Plane' series was born. Designed and produced by The Velvet Cell, edited and curated by Phillip Kalantzis-Cope, featuring photographers from the world over.
About the Book:
At the airport we are exposed to a set of powerful binaries: the excitement of indexing a new journey and the fear of what is unknown, the joy of coming home and the dread of retuning to an unwanted past, the hope of a new future in a distant land and the emptiness of leaving loved ones behind. It is a space full of connection, but also filled with loneliness and isolation, a place of safety and a place of fear, of tranquility and chaos, of incredible speed and complete sedentariness.
In their own way each photographer in this issue beautifully capture pieces of this patchwork of experience.
