In Wuhan Diary – the 7th instalment in the City Diary series – Peter Bialobrzeski turns his gaze on the Chinese city of Wuhan – now infamous as the source of Covid-19 in late 2019. Shot between 22 Feb – 12 Mar 2017, the Bialobrzeski’s images reveal a bustling city of over 19 million coming to terms with its own rapid development.

“On a pedestrian bridge a young woman beats up her boy. She shouts and screams at him, while he throws, while he throws himself on the dirty ground.” – 28th February 2017

City Diaries is a joint publishing project between The Velvet Cell and award-winning German photographer Peter Bialobrzeski. Releasing approximately two books a year, each diary focuses on a single city, somewhere in the world, against the backdrop of a rapidly urbanising world. All books in the series maintain the same size, dimensions and page count.

Peter Bialobrzeski is a world-renowned photographer and the recipient of several awards including the prestigious “World Press Photo Award” in 2003 and 2010. He is also the author of over ten photobooks, including “Neon Tigers”, “Heimat”, “Lost in Transition” and “Paradise Now”.
